Photothermal‐Amplified Single Atom Nanozyme for Biofouling Control in Seawater

Abstract Biofouling is a common and expensive problem in medical, food, maritime industries. Artificial nanozymes as functional mimics of haloperoxidases that boost the formation cytotoxic hypohalous acids from halides H 2 O are showing increasing potential novel class ecofriendly antibiofouling materials to combat biofilm formation. A photothermal nanozyme (Mo SA‐N/C) with Mo single atoms active sites exhibits haloperoxidase‐mimicking capacity herein developed. Density theory calculations indicate hydroxyl radical dissociation key intermediate for hypobromous acid Upon photoirradiation, SA‐N/C generates heat accelerates reaction kinetics substantially. Finally, it demonstrated exerts superior broad‐spectrum antibacterial activity can be applied an effective coating additive inhibiting biofouling real marine conditions. Taken together, this study opens avenue developing biocompatible photo‐response artificial enzymes our fight against biofouling.
